Wow, I love this batch!! The textures/backgrounds are all so unique and fit well with the images. Plus sometimes I find text off-putting but not with any of these. Snagging 12 and 24 and 42 and probably some others :D

What programs did you use to make them? Or, well, what programs would you use if you were just starting out, I guess? I’m not going to be good any time soon, if ever, but I’d like to make a few icons, and it would be nice if they looked like I sort of knew what I was doing!

Thank you so much. I use PhotoshopCS6 Portable version mainly for my icons , or for any other graphics I make from time to time. Occasionally , I use photoscape to use some cool inbuilt features from that program , like frames , or simple color corrections. My version of photoshop is a very light one and it has many new and modern features of photoshop missing , but over the years it has worked fine for me and I'm comfortable and used to the interface and features and I've no intention to stop using it or update to a newer version. Afterall , I'm not a professional and I just do this for fun.
I've been making icons for many years , almost 7-8 years I think ?? And I've still a long way to go. So, IG the thing is , to just start and keep making. Over the time , we all learn and settle into our unique style through trial and error. Of course , there are many amazing tutorials out there. My advice would be to start from the most basic ones , crop , coloring , negative background , texts etc. Complex compositions , layering etc. shouldn't be important at the beginning phase. The key is to keep having fun so that one doesn't feel like, " Phew ! I'm exhausted ! Let's take a break from icon making . " It should feel like , " Phew ! I'm exhausted ! Let's take a break and go make some icons and refresh myself. "
